Product Description

Traditional uses of Active Ingredients in our Wild Yam Cream:

Dioscorea villosa  – Wild yam

Contains steroidal saponins including dioscine; phytosterols; alkaloids; tannin; starch.

Actions: Anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, cholagogue.

Indications: This valuable herb was at one point the sole source of the chemicals that were used as the raw materials for contraceptive hormone manufacture. In herbal medicine Wild Yam is a valuable herb that can be used to relieve intestinal colic, to soothe diverticulitis, ease dysmenorrhea and ovarian and uterine pains.

Vitex agnus-castus – Chaste Tree

The dried berries are used as a tincture and they contain iridoid glycosides which include auction and agnoside; flavonoids including casticin, isovitexin and orienting; essential oil

Actions: Tonic for the reproductive organs

Indications: Chaste tree has the effect of stimulating progesterone function. It may be called an amphoteric remedy, as it can produce apparently opposite effects though in truth it is simply normalising. It has a reputation as an aphrodisiac and an anaphrodisiac! It will always enable what is appropriate for the individual body, to occur. It normalises the female sex hormones and it is thus indicated for dysmenorrhoea, pre-menstrual stress etc. It is especially beneficial during menopausal changes. It can be used after a woman stops using the synthetic contraceptive pill, to help her normalise balance.

Ricinus communis – Castor oil

It is a slightly yellowish oil that is extracted from the Castor bean or seed of the Ricinus communis. A tall tropical plant with large palmate leaves, also known as Palma Christi (palm of Christ). The Castor oil plant is native to India. The castor oil has a long history of traditional uses. It is one of the finest skin emollients on the planet. It promotes hair growth, moisturises the skin, soothes joint and muscle soreness, hydrates the skin, acts as an anti-inflammatory, stimulates organs and glands, relieves headaches and improves blood and lymphatic circulation.

Chemically Castor oil is a triglyceride of fatty acids, nearly ninety percent of which is an unsaturated fatty acid called ricinoleic acid. (Triglycerides play an important role in metabolism as energy sources.) It is thought that the high concentration of this ingredient gives the oil its remarkable healing qualities. Ricinoleic acid has been shown to be effective in preventing the growth of various species of bacteria, yeast, molds, and viruses (Novak, A.F., et al, Journal of the American Oil Chemists’ Society, 1961, No. 37, pp. 323-325). Perhaps this quality accounts for its high success rate in topical applications and antimicrobial activity.

Pelargonium graveolens – Geranium Egyptian Essential Oil

Geranium oil has a balancing effect on the nervous system and relieves depression, stress and anxiety. It also balances and uplifts the spirit. It is said to have a stimulating effect which helps with detoxifying the body. It eases female conditions like menstrual and menopausal symptoms, heavy periods, breast tenderness as well as cellulite and fluid retention. An excellent skin moisturiser and regenerator, as it has been suggested that the oil helps to balance the secretion of sebum and balances oily and dry skins alike. It is also an effective aid to help with burns, wounds, ulcers, athletes foot and other skin problems.
